- JAVA
- A programming language that webmasters use to run applets that websites download to visitors’ computers. This allows applets to run efficiently from the end user’s hard drive, and does not tax web server resources. Popular Java applets authenticate users to access protected content, load music files, pop up web forms and rotate display ads.
- JavaScript
- A popular script based programming language similar in function to Java. JavaScript interacts with HTML to run a wide range of applets within web browsers.
- JPEG
- Acronym for Joint Photographic Experts Group, the organization that developed the technical specifications for the web’s predominant image compression algorithm. JPEG files discard extraneous data from original image source files, yet still display nicely on computer screens.
- jump page ad
- A pop-up or Flash ad that viewers can click to jump to advertiser websites. Visitors simply close the ad window to return to the original content.
