- HDTV
- High Definition TV, a new format for digital TV signal delivery. The existing analog format is called NTSC (National Television Standards Committee).The digital HDTV signal is crystal clear, noise-free, with CD-quality sound, delivered in a cinema-like 16 by 9 aspect ratio with 1080 lines of information instead of the customary 3 by 4 aspect ratio and 480 lines.
- home shopping
- Term now used to describe live, 24-hour-per-day home shopping television networks such as HSN, QVC, Value Vision, Shop NBC, Shop at Home, ACNTV, etc.
- home shopping format
- Infomercial program structure that mimics live home shopping—using a simple set, a single product presenter sitting next to the product and often taking testimonial “phone-ins.” Although they appear to be “live,” these programs are pre-recorded.
- Home Shopping Network
- Commonly known as HSN or Home Shopping Club. The Florida-based, 24-hour per day, live, satellite-fed, cable network purveyor of goods and services. Launched in 1984, HSN was the first shopping network; it went national in 1986.

- The number of homes watching television at any particular time divided by the total number of homes with television, reflected as a percentage.
- household
- For media buyers, a home with one or more televisions.
